One oddball culprit is multiple instances of the app running at once, and the update agent taking up a loooooot of resources even when nothing is updating. I went in safe mode and started looking at a bunch of hidden stuff and started deleting/disabling unorthodox files/folders/registry entries/programs etc. I'm super new to all of this but if I'm not mistaken, it's possible to fake a signature right? What makes it even more difficult is that there are suspicious file names with random numbers attached to them, but are "digitally certified" and marked as safe. I've been digging around for a while to try and find what's going on, but there's so many odd things it's hard to pinpoint. I'm actually looking at it as a blessing from the gods, because it's attracted my attention enough to lead me into pursuing a hobby (possible career!?) in cybersecurity. I'm not stupid and I know safe internet practices, but I've been reading up that offenders got smart by faking Flash Player updates or something similar that makes you think it's totally normal. I had my identity stolen a while back and someone took out a paycheck advance in my name, which is why I'm more certain something is aloof. Can't install windows update past a 2016 version. So I'm preeeeeeety sure there's a rootkit/crapware of some sort on my PC.
